“The last sad example is the termination of the Treaty on the Elimination of Intermediate-Range and Shorter-Range Missiles. The real possibility of these weapons appearing in Europe is a direct path to increasing tension on the continent and a new round of the arms race, ”TASS quoted the Belarusian leader as speaking at an international conference on combating terrorism.

Earlier, the Chinese Foreign Ministry commented on a US test of a missile banned by the INF Treaty, saying that such actions would lead to an escalation of military confrontation.

At the beginning of this year, the United States announced its intention to withdraw from the INF Treaty unilaterally, accusing Russia of violating the agreement.

The formal reason for this was the possibility of Russian 9M729 missiles.

Moscow, in turn, notes that Washington has violated the provisions of the INF Treaty since it began to use target missiles in 1999.

Member of the Federation Council Franz Klintsevich commented on the situation around the agreement in an interview with the FAN.
