“Of course, it's a loss for Eric's family. But it is also a black day for Swedish police ”.

So, prosecutors began their case during the first trial in the case of the shooting death of Eric Torell, 20.

On the scene in Stockholm District Court, apart from the three prosecutors, was Eric Torell's family and a large number of journalists.

One of the strongest moments was when the prosecutor played the radio communication between the police on the night of August 2 last year - the night when Eric Torell was shot dead.

In addition to the chief of staff charged with malpractice, two of the three police officers present at the shooting were also charged. They are both in their 30s and had only served for 7 weeks and 8 months, respectively, when Eric Torell was shot dead. One of them is charged with malpractice, one for causing death to another.

Police scream on the radio

The two police officers looked at each other when they heard their own voices on the sound recording. The radio communication also shows the riot that arose when the police opened fire.

- We have gunshots, gunshots, we get shot !, you hear how one of the police patrols screams.

Short silence.

- Man down, man down, he's lying on the hill, is the next call.

Prior to that, the other police patrol, in which the two prosecutors were part of, had been warned that there had been a case in the same neighborhood with a man who had a gun and threatened to shoot police.

- It sounds like this is this man, not because we have confirmed it, but come on, says the operator.

Warned of "extremely dangerous man"

Another police warns that the man is "extremely dangerous" and that he should have an AK47 and hand grenades at home. Here, however, a decisive error occurs, the management center believes that the dangerous man is on the loose, but in fact he is detained.

However, the misunderstanding caused the police to delay giving Eric Torell heart and lung rescue, this being when they were afraid of explosives.

In total, 25 shots were fired when Eric Torell was shot dead. 12 of these, an entire magazine, were fired by the police who are not prosecuted. That this police officer is not prosecuted is because his shot did not hit in the back, therefore, according to the prosecutor, it was still an emergency situation.

Three of the shots hit Eric Torell, one of whom was deadly.

Denies crime

The first day of the trial ended with the police lawyers giving their speeches. All three refuse a crime.

- On August 2, a terrible accident occurs. What will become clear over the next few days is this accident as a result of a number of unfortunate co-operating factors, said Anton Strand, who defends the police being charged with wrongdoing to another's death or malpractice, during the trial.
