In an opinion poll conducted by Västerbotten County's major news editorials, only half of the public employees surveyed dared to criticize their employers for serious misconduct.

But Emma Sehlstedt from Skellefteå is one of those who dared to come forward and tell about the shortcomings she experienced at her then workplace within the home service at Skellefteå municipality. It was in January 2017 that she showed the food boxes in the media, which attracted a lot of attention.

- There were a lot of people we served food for and it didn't look appetizing at all times. We tried to do our best and taste the food and put it up just fine, but we had our limitations, says Emma Sehlstedt.

Based on what it was like - do you regret anything today?

- Of course, I wish I could make an even bigger impact, that it would happen even more. But I do not regret it.

"The criticism contributed to better cooperation"

Peter Lundmark, meal manager at Skellefteå municipality, believes that Emma and her colleagues' criticisms made a difference.

- The fact that they photographed the food and provided criticism contributed to a better cooperation between the meal department and the home service today. For me, it is important to encourage employees to speak up if something is wrong. A business is constantly improving, but criticism is an important driver for developing a business, says Peter Lundmark.
