Eight school children were stabbed to death in China on Tuesday, AFP reports. Two other children were injured. The police arrested a forty-year-old suspect in connection with the stabbing. The man's motive is unclear.

The incident took place in the village of Chaoyangpo in the central province of Hubei. The local authorities say they make every effort to offer students psychological support.

China has been rocked several times in recent years by knife attacks. Security was therefore increased in many schools.

In April a man killed two students with a knife in the central province of Hanan. In October last year, a woman injured fourteen children with a knife at a kindergarten in the southwestern province of Sichuan.

At a stabbing in April last year, a man killed nine high school students who were on their way home.
