Three buildings were completely destroyed on Tuesday around 12.20 pm by a possible gas explosion in Antwerp. Three wounded, one of whom was serious, were removed from under the rubble. According to the Antwerp police, one more person is missing.
The blast took place in Wilrijk, a district in the south of Antwerp. Emergency services are en masse on the spot and victims are searched for with search dogs. They are supported by employees of the Red Cross.
The cause of the explosion is not yet known. An investigation will follow, reports Mayor Bart De Wever of Antwerp. Local residents tell Belgian media that work has been carried out in one of the buildings.
"We are grateful to the emergency services that are currently working on rescue and rescue," De Wever writes on Twitter. "Our thoughts are with the victims and their loved ones. Antwerp will support them all."
Residents and their families are taken care of in a nearby neighborhood center.
