02 September 2019 Fire on a boat with more than 30 people on board off the coast of California. The US media reports.

The 22-meter long boat was off the coast of the island of Santa Cruz when, according to the Coast Guard, "it was engulfed in flames".

"The Coast Guard has sent multiple rescue vehicles along with local agency vehicles to assist more than 30 people in distress on a 75-foot boat near the island of Santa Cruz," the Coast Guard said in a tweet.

The crew members were rescued (one with minor injuries) and rescuers continue to try to evacuate the remaining passengers.

Santa Cruz, located off the coast of Santa Barbara, is the largest of the eight islands in the Channel and also the largest island in California. Together with the other islands of the Channel it hosts a national marine park.
