"It's significantly more than the previous peak year," says Helena Ernlund, assistant infection control physician at Falu laser.

The cause of the outbreak of the infectious disease harpest is unclear, but it is known that the outbreak goes in waves. Two years ago, only two cases of the disease were reported in the county.

- Unfortunately you do not know why it is like this, some years it is more than others, says Helena Ernlund.

More cases are expected

The peak for this year's harpest outbreak does not seem to have been reached either, the month of September is usually when most cases are reported during the year.

- We expect more cases to come, of course it may have been an earlier peak this year, but we do not think the peak has been reached, says Ernlund.

In Sweden, the number of harpest cases is up to 560 in total. In 2015, a total of 859 cases were reported in the country, when Norrbotten and Västerbotten had major outbreaks with over 400 cases.

Mora stands out

In Dalarna, most people have fallen ill in the areas around Mora. In the past, it has been more common for those living in areas around the Västerdal River to suffer. It is unclear why there are so many cases this year in Mora.

- It may be about the heat from last year's summer, that it has led to more mosquitoes, but you do not know for sure, says Helena Ernlund.
