• Politics: Congress beats the Government in the Open Arms debate
  • Poll. Most do not want elections and accuses Pedro Sánchez of forcing them

The way in which the Government managed this summer the Open Arms crisis, maintaining contradictory speeches, criticizing the NGO and finally sending a military ship to Italy to pick up 15 immigrants, has not had the support of the Spaniards. Not even socialist voters.

According to data from the Sigma Dos survey for EL MUNDO , the group of those who believe that the Pedro Sánchez Executive acted badly (31.5%) than those who think he did well (17.9%), with 35 , 6% in the middle that stays in a "regular".

Among socialist voters, this “regular” option is preferred (45.4%) and those who support the management of the Government barely reach 25.1%.

With these data, it is not surprising that a large majority of 67.1% believe that the president of the acting Government should appear in Congress to give explanations. This was a hot issue during the crisis, because Pedro Sánchez refused to go to the lower house for this and other matters. Finally, last Thursday was the acting vice president, Carmen Calvo, who appeared after forcing him Podemos, producing a very rough debate in which the negotiations between Pedro Sánchez and Pablo Iglesias ended up starring the session over the immigration issue.

The truth is that the support for the NGO responsible for the Open Arms is quite broad among the Spaniards, especially in the leftist electorate. In the socialist, the data is 40.7% supportive compared to a critical 15.5%, so the criticism that Calvo pronounced against the NGO is not shared by its voters.

Only Vox voters are very critical of the NGO and support the Italian Government

In general, there is a strong ideological burden with immigration, so that the more to the right, the more critical voters are with the activities carried out by the Open Arms.

More unanimous is the assessment of the former Italian Government. With Matteo Salvini as Minister of the Interior, only 10.5% support him and almost all are voters of Vox, the only party that has supported the policy of the Italian leader.

The Santiago Abascal party has one of its referents in Salvini and has moved its harsh speech with illegal immigration to Spain, as was seen during Abascal's intervention last Thursday in Congress.

These leaders argue that the immigration issue is not addressed because of political correctness and denounce that the arrival of irregular immigrants destabilizes society and puts European culture at risk. In part, because, as they proclaim, immigration is always concentrated in the same areas, usually of popular classes, who suffer in their neighborhoods, towns, schools and health centers the overpopulation of people from other countries.

It is a discourse that progresses in many parts of Europe, but in Spain it is not doing so in the same way. According to the survey, even among the Vox electorate there is 11.4% who defend the NGO and another 12% who stay in the middle with "regular".
