“This is probably the saddest and worst day I have spoken to the people of Bahamas. We are facing a hurricane that we have never seen in the Bahamas before. Please pray for us, ”writes Bahamas Prime Minister Hubert Minnis on Twitter.

Dorian is the most powerful hurricane that has ever hit the Bahamas, and is graded as a fifth on a five-scale scale by the US Hurricane Authority. But despite the major material damage, there are no reports yet that someone has lost their life as a result of the storm.

"Leave the coast"

On the island of Great Guyana Cay, just off the main island of Abaco Island, high waves are hitting land and low-lying areas are already flooded. The hurricane winds should also have blown off roofs.

For at least two days, Dorian will give rise to high waves along the northern coast of the Grand Bahamas as well as Abaco's northern and eastern coasts, according to Jeffery Simmons, deputy head of the Bahamas weather authority.

- We ask the residents of these areas to leave the coast, we expect storm waves of up to four and a half meters, says Simmons.

Evacuation in South Carolina

While the Bahamas are being tormented by Dorian, the United States is preparing for the hurricane's entry. During the night, the states of South Carolina and Georgia have ordered the evacuation of residents along the coasts, according to the AP.

- We can't make everyone happy. But we can keep everyone alive, South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster said in a statement.
