UNT has also reported on Donna Helander and Linn Strömbert's disappointment with the negative response from Uppsala bug and swing society.

- Donna has been dancing for years and I danced bug when I was younger, so now I wanted to learn how to dance and we thought it would be great fun to be able to go off and dance together. But when we asked how we would sign up, we received in response that we did not get it, for the man to lead and the woman to follow. That is their policy, says Linn Strömbert.

How did you react to that?

- You both get annoyed and think it's laughable at the same time. They say everyone is welcome but that is not the case.

In an email response from the association that SVT Uppsala has taken note of, the courses are for those who want to dance "their own gender", and the couple is recommended to turn to another association.

- How to dance your own gender? It feels like an outdated expression. We had not had to dance with the others on the course but could have danced as a couple.

An expectation of dancing with the opposite sex

Mikael Österberg is chairman of Uppsala bug and swing society, USBB. He explains that on the type of bug course that the couple signed up for, there is an expectation from the course participants that it should be men who lead and women who follow.

- They simply want to dance with someone of the opposite sex simply. And we have arranged other courses where you both learn to follow and follow, but unfortunately, not many people have applied for them so we have had to set them. So right now we have no such course in progress.

But do you understand that this couple feels discriminated against?

- No, I haven't - because we have other opportunities, but not right now.

Can you change your mind about this couple?

- No, not because of the specific case. But I understand them and we want everyone to have the opportunity to dance.

But not same-sex couples?

- Right now we have nothing to offer them, unfortunately.

Other dance clubs in Uppsala have contacted Donna Helander and Linn Strömbert with offers to participate in their courses, and they plan to register for a course in another association.
