Jenny Karlsson in Strömstad municipality has a daughter named Wilma who has just started high school in the municipality.

During his elementary school years, Wilma received what is known as a "special school transfer" to the school. This is because Wilma, who has ADD and post-traumatic stress syndrome, cannot go along with too many other students to and question the school.

But when it was time for her to start high school, the problems began.

The municipality writes on their website that they give free bus tickets to all high school students who live more than six kilometers from the school.

Wilma lives 16 kilometers from her high school. But she will not be allowed to go to her school for free in the future.

The municipality has decided that she should receive help through the social service - and was granted travel services to and from the school.

"It is incomprehensible"

During a meeting with the Social Administration, Jenny Karlsson was told: the cost of the easy way is SEK 91. In one school year, that would mean a note of over SEK 32,000 for the family.

- It is incomprehensible to have to pay so much, especially when students who do not need a special push get it free of charge, says Jenny.

- I wonder if the politicians think this is the way it should be for a child who will attend high school.

After SVT News West met Jenny Karlsson, the municipality contacted her and said that they will bear the costs until the issue is investigated.

No guarantees for a free school trip to high school

At Strömstad municipality, you mean that you follow the laws that apply to school shootings and student trips for high school students, while also exploring the issue in large part

The child and education administration will thus be responsible for the costs of Wilma's travel services while the matter is being investigated.

But whether it will eventually be free for Wilma to go to school is not safe. It will be decided by the Social Committee at some point during the autumn.

Head of Administration for Children and Education Nicklas Faritzon says that the municipality has acted "on the basis of the provisions of the legislation applicable to school transfers and student trips".
