2017 - After eight years of construction, the world's most powerful X-ray laser goes into operation in Hamburg. For detailed images of molecules and cells, 27,000 flashes are generated per second in a 3.4-kilometer-long tunnel.

2014 - In a dispute in the tax office Rendsburg a tax consultant shoots an official in his office. He is sentenced to life imprisonment for murder.

2009 - For the most important companies of the trade and tourism giant Arcandor the Essen district court opens the insolvency procedure.

2004 - 32 gunmen attack a school in the north Ossetian city Beslan and take more than 1,100 hostages. The storm of security forces two days later killed more than 360 people, including 186 children and 31 of the terrorists.

1999 - Deutsche Bank 24 is launched as an independent branch and online subsidiary of Deutsche Bank. In 2002, it will be integrated again.
