Festival of the Midnight Sun was marketed in 1970 as a Swedish Woodstock and held at the then newly built racetrack in Mantorp. Afterwards it has been called the biggest flop in Swedish entertainment history. It is now re-emerging after 49 years at the classic Sjögestad Motel, located between Mjölby and Linköping.
Among the 17 clear bands are Les Big Byrd, Maida Vale, Tears, Kebnekajse and French Trion.
The new festival will take place on August 31 and will receive a maximum of 3,000 visitors, which is as many as the festival in 1970 - but the organizers then expected to sell 300,000 tickets.
The idea of organizing a new festival got the organizers Rockered Kulturförening during the work on a short film about the Mantorps fiasco, which is expected to premiere in August.
