It was several weeks ago that the wolf was photographed by a camera set up in the forest outside Furuhult north of Älandsbro in Härnösand municipality.

- We believe with great certainty that it is a wolf that you photographed, says Lars Wiklund at the County Administrative Board in Västernorrland who visited the site and found that there are also traces of wolf in the area.

Worried about the moose hunt

The wolf's possible presence means a new situation for Furuhult's hunting team that will hunt moose in the area in question next week. Above all, it is a concern for those who have to drop their dogs in the forest.

- The dog drivers probably think a lot about that. Ideally, there would be no wolf here, but it is natural for someone to come here every now and then, says Bo Norell, who is a hunting leader.

Not cause for concern

Lars Wiklund on the county administrative board does not think there is any cause for major concern.

"No, you shouldn't be, a wolf can potentially show up anywhere, they have the ability to move very long distances," he says, saying that it is not at all certain that the wolf is still in the neighborhood.

- In any case, no more observations have been made, if a wolf stops in an area it usually comes in more and more observations and so it was for a week's time, but then I have heard nothing more, he says

Unusual with wolf in Ångermanland

The fact that wolves show up in Västernorrland is not uncommon, the county shares a wolf dig with Gävleborg county, but in Ångermanland, according to Lars Wiklund, no observations have been made in recent years.

- In Ångermanland we have not tracked the wolf in two winter seasons now, he notes.

At the same time, hunting leader Bo Norell believes that there is some risk that the wolf is left in the forests around Furuhult.

"It's very possible, it's a big area," he says.
