Toyota goes to battery recycling business in Thailand

Toyota Motor has announced its policy of starting a business to recycle used batteries in Thailand in Southeast Asia for the first time in anticipation of sales expansion of hybrid cars and electric cars in emerging Asian countries.

Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. released a facility for reusing and recycling batteries used in hybrid vehicles in Chachoengsao Province in eastern Thailand on the 30th.

In this facility, the latest equipment that can measure the deterioration status of used batteries in a few minutes will be introduced, and depending on the battery status, it will be reassembled into used batteries for automobiles, or reused for storage batteries such as solar panels. I will.

In addition, batteries with severe deterioration are recycled into steel and battery materials using a special furnace. This is the first time Toyota has developed such a business overseas.

Dealing with used batteries has become a major issue as Asian and emerging countries are expected to expand sales of hybrid vehicles and electric vehicles with the strengthening of environmental regulations and government support.

For this reason, Toyota wants to increase the efficiency of its business by securing batteries from other automobile manufacturers in Thailand and secure profits. Mr. Yoshiaki Ishimoto, a director of Toyota Thailand, said, “There has never been a battery treatment facility in Asia, so I would like to expand this model to other countries.”
