• Madrid. The Civil Guard detects dozens of drones flying without authorization and clandestine tracks
  • Catalonia: Mossos complaints to individuals for using bad recreational drones are increasing

Between June 7 and 16, 117 illegal drone flights were detected in the urban area of Madrid . To counteract the improper use of these devices, the Ministry of Interior has set up a system that, for the moment, shields the palaces of Zarzuela and Moncloa , the Congress and the Senate against these threats.

It is a system for remote detection, identification, monitoring, monitoring and, where appropriate, neutralization of unmanned aircraft when they pose a threat, in which 290,000 euros have been invested.

A project included in a program with measures that will be implemented gradually and which the Council of Ministers has given its approval on Friday.

The Deputy Director General of Information and Communications Systems for Security, dependent on Interior, Enrique Belda , explained to Efe that at the end of July this technological system was already installed, and operating in the buildings that house the main State institutions .

From each of its headquarters, where the equipment is installed, the drones that are presumably violating the rules can be detected, that is, those that fly the least without authorization.

But the system, which has been called Global , will continue to be implemented and in a second phase will aim to protect prisons, after the Civil Guard already detected drones delivering drugs in the Alhaurín prison in Malaga last May. of the Tower .

Belda points out that through social networks "tutorials" that teach how to manipulate drones to record or take photographs without permission, including some that violate the right to privacy were released.

Interior has been forced to take measures that protect the public space from the illegal intrusion of these aircraft, so that it can be neutralized when it poses a threat and even act against the operator who directs the drone by remote control.

And it is that the system that has already begun to work can verify, according to Belda, whether or not the drone detected has authorization to fly over the area in which it is doing so.

Because the objective, he adds, is to reduce as much as possible the risks of unmanned flights over critical areas.

Belda emphasizes how technological advances have provided drones with "brutal benefits" at affordable prices and recalls that there are reckless but unintended flights that, without wanting to cause harm, can be dangerous, such as those approaching airports .
