This summer, most municipalities in Västra Götaland and Halland have supervised popular places along the water to discover buildings, bridges and other areas that do not have beach protection dispensation and are therefore illegal.

- Above all, these are areas that are popular for, for example, hiking and swimming and where recreational areas have grown large. Then there will be a conflict between the public and those who live there, says Kristina Höök Patriksson at the County Administrative Board in Västra Götaland.

Stocks are torn down

If the person who has not applied for a beach protection dispensation, it can go so far as to demolish what has been built. Something that, according to the county administrative board, often happens when people rebuild storage rooms for saunas or guest cabins.

Or when people think that bailouts, which do not require building permits, can therefore be built even at the water without any permission.

- This is about the right of the public, but also about boiling of biodiversity where water meets land, says Kristina Höök Patriksson.

Increased supervision

This summer, most municipalities are part of a project that will increase the supervision of the beach protection dispensary.

- Supervision has been far too neglected. It must not be that those who take care and apply can get a no, but that those who cheat get away, says Kristina Höök Patriksson.
