Next year's budget estimate request August 30th at 15:56 to about 105 trillion yen

A budget request from each ministry was submitted to the Ministry of Finance for the preparation of the national budget for the next year. The total amount of the general account is expected to surpass ¥ 100 trillion for the sixth consecutive year due to the rise in social security costs against the background of an aging population, reaching a record high of ¥ 105 trillion.

The budget request for next year was submitted by each ministry on the 30th, and the Ministry of Finance was immediately confirming the submitted data.

Of these, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, which has the highest amount of demand, further increased social security expenses such as medical care and nursing care, and demanded a record high of 32,623.4 billion yen.

In addition, the Ministry of Defense requested a record-high 5,322.3 billion yen to strengthen defense capabilities in areas such as space and cyber.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism requested ¥ 7,010.1 billion, including the cost of developing a tsunami prepared for a tsunami and facilities for accepting people who have difficulty returning home, as a countermeasure for the Nankai Trough earthquake and the earthquake directly below the capital.

In addition, “Government bond expenses” for redemption and interest payments of government bonds will be 24,094.6 billion yen, 1.4 trillion yen more than the current fiscal year's budget.

As a result, the budget request for the next fiscal year is expected to exceed the total of 100 trillion yen for the sixth consecutive year, reaching a record high of 105 trillion yen.

This is approximately 2 trillion yen higher than the budget request level for the current fiscal year, which finally exceeded 100 trillion yen.

Furthermore, economic measures accompanying the increase in the consumption tax rate will be decided separately by the end of the year, and as pressures on expanding spending intensify, the challenge will be how to control spending in future budgeting.
