The streets of the city of Taiz, Yemen, marched in popular demonstrations rejecting the UAE presence in Yemen.The government demanded the expulsion of the UAE from the Saudi-led coalition, while Washington called on all parties in Yemen to respect the ceasefire agreement and resolve differences through dialogue.

Local sources said that demonstrators marched after Friday prayers marched through the streets, and chanted slogans calling for the departure of UAE forces from Yemen.

Participants condemned all the actions of the UAE in Yemen, including the airstrikes launched by the United Arab Emirates on Thursday on government forces in the provinces of Aden and Abyan, which claimed the lives of hundreds of dead and wounded.

Demonstrators called on the Yemeni government to quickly take a stand to end the UAE's role in the coalition, because of what they called the deviation of the UAE role from the coalition's stated objectives for which he entered Yemen.

Message to Saudi Arabia
For its part, the Yemeni government called on President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi to send a message to Saudi Arabia demanding an end to the UAE's participation in the Saudi-UAE alliance. In a written letter to Hadi, members of the government confirmed Yemen's right to sue the UAE.

The Yemeni government has also formally asked the Security Council to hold an emergency session on UAE air strikes, and members of the government have affirmed their right to sue Abu Dhabi for the raids.

In an international response, the US State Department, in a statement, called on all Yemeni parties to respect the ceasefire agreement and resolve their differences through dialogue, noting that dialogue is the only way to a stable, united and prosperous Yemen.

The US State Department affirmed its support for mediation efforts in Yemen and a solution through negotiations between the government and the Southern Transitional Council, adding that the growing divisions in Yemen will only exacerbate the suffering of Yemenis and prolong the conflict.

The State Department called on all parties to respect the state institutions that form the basis of political and economic stability in Yemen.

The statement pointed out that Washington will continue to focus on supporting a comprehensive political solution to end the conflict and the painful humanitarian situation in Yemen.

International concern
For its part, the Security Council expressed particular concern about recent developments in southern Yemen, including attempts to control state institutions with violence. In a statement, the council called on all parties to exercise restraint and preserve Yemen's territorial integrity.

On the ground, local sources told Al Jazeera that the UAE-backed security belt forces stormed the homes of pro-government security and military leaders in Aden.

On Thursday, President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi accused the UAE-backed Transitional Council forces of carrying out executions of a number of wounded in several hospitals in the province of Abyan.
