The outbreak, which began in August 2018, is the second largest in the history of the virus after 2013-2014, which killed nearly 11,000 people in West Africa.

The deadly epidemic continues in the DRC. The National Multisectoral Ebola Response Committee reports that since 1 August 2018, 3,000 Ebola cases have been reported in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Three provinces are particularly affected by the virus: North Kivu, Ituri and South Kivu.

To date, 2,006 people have died. According to WHO, Ebola kills 25% to 90% of patients.

Of the 3,000 cases identified, 902 people were declared cured.

Fourth dead in Uganda

These figures were released at the same time as the announcement of the death of a girl because of the virus in Uganda , a neighboring country.

The nine-year-old girl was of Congolese origin. She arrived in Uganda with her mother by the crossing point in Mpondwe on Wednesday. She had all the symptoms: fever, generalized weakness, rash and unexplained blood loss in the mouth. The diagnosis of the medical teams fell the next day, the girl had contracted the Ebola virus.

It is the fourth person with the disease to die in Uganda. Already last June, three members of the same family died of this disease. All were from the DRC.
