From September, a device to record the sound level of vehicles will be tested in Villeneuve-le-Roi. Indispensable, according to the city councilor of the Val-de-Marne.

Scooters, unrestrained motorcycles, quads ... For the drivers of these machines, it will be necessary to lift the foot arriving at the central square of Villeneuve-le-Roi. The first anti-noise radar, nicknamed "jellyfish sensor", developed by the association Bruitparif, is indeed in this city of Val-de-Marne.

The small black box, perched at the top of a lamp post and equipped with four microphones, calculates the decibels to identify noisy vehicles to ultimately verbalize them. "There are streets that are not even more frequent and I think it's a very good idea for the serenity of the city" says Liliane, a resident of Villeneuve-le-Roi.

More than 100 calls a day

Didier Gonzales, mayor The Republicans of Villeneuve-le-Roi and president of the association Bruitparif, points to a "public health problem", while "the WHO has seized all these problems."

Sign that noise is a problem in this municipality, the municipal police receives more than 100 calls per day. "It happens that on Sunday, a motocross or two crisscross the city and it is a succession of calls to the municipal police" explains the mayor. "I'm not the only one to implement this tool, because Bruitparif receives a lot of requests for this tool to put an end to these behaviors," said Didier Goinzales.

"Decrees must be made so that we can verbalize"

Justice must now validate this device so that sanctions can be established. "It was necessary to establish the reality of a tool that allows to do things. With the 'Medusa', we have a tool that can capture the sounds and differentiate" says Didier Gonzales.

The mayor said that Bruitparif has made an amendment to verbalize the noisiest vehicles. "The law LOM (law of orientation of mobilities) includes an amendment, carried by Bruitparif, providing for a test phase at the end of which decrees will have to be taken so that we can verbalize the extreme cases", explains the elected.
