Lucas Pouille, 26th in the world, was eliminated Thursday in the second round of the US Open by the British Daniel Evans (58th), 6-4, 6-3, 6-7 (4/7), 6-4.

After a first round "not obvious" against Philipp Kohlschreiber (72), the French N.3 27 years has fallen. He is the third Frenchman to leave Flushing Meadows on Thursday after Grégoire Barrere and Kristina Mladenovic. So far, of the ten Tricolores in the second round, only Fiona Ferro qualified, beating ... Mladenovic.

This year, Apulia reached the semi-finals in Australia earlier this year and the quarter-finals at the Cincinnati Masters 1000 this summer, eliminated twice by Novak Djokovic. Last year at Flushing Meadows he had reached the 3rd lap.

It is therefore Evans who will have the formidable honor to face Roger Federer for a place in the 8th finals.
