Los Angeles (dpa) - With a new "Joker" trailer, the studio Warner Bros. agrees shortly before the movie premiere on the scary drama. Joaquin Phoenix (44, "Walk the Line") shows in the role of the iconic horror clown in the video a disturbing portrait of the Batman adversary Joker.
He plays the unsuccessful comedian Arthur Fleck, who increasingly falls into madness in the fictitious metropolis Gotham City. The drama will be performed for the first time at the Venice Film Festival.
He has only negative thoughts, tells Arthur Fleck in a therapy session, before he becomes white with a make-up and clown mask. In the film by director Todd Phillips also play Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz and Frances Conroy. The comic villain had been portrayed in earlier films by, among others, Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger and Jared Leto.
"Joker" is competing for the Golden Lion at the recently started Venice Film Festival. He is celebrating his world premiere there on Saturday. In the US, the film is due to hit the cinemas on October 4, Germany a week later.
