The US peace plan for a settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict will not be presented before the parliamentary elections of September 17 in Israel, announced Wednesday a senior White House official.

"We decided not to present the peace plan (or elements of it) before the elections in Israel," tweeted Jason Greenblatt, special advisor to Donald Trump, after ambiguous remarks by the US president on this theme during of the recent G7 summit.

Asked at a meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi about the timing of this document, Trump had sown doubt. "I think you could see what this agreement looks like before the election," he said.

In June, Palestinian leaders boycotted the presentation in Bahrain of the economic component of the US peace plan, which includes $ 50 billion in investment in the Palestinian territories and neighboring Arab countries over a ten-year period.

Palestinian leaders have cut off all formal contact with the White House since Trump recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, while Palestinians hope to make East Jerusalem, part of the Holy City occupied and annexed by Israel, capital of the state to which they aspire.

Head of the Israeli government between 1996 and 1999, and again since 2009, Benjamin Netanyahu won the legislative elections in April, but, unable to form a coalition, has chosen to call new elections.
