WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A scandal involving US congressman Ilhan Omar over a divorce filed by US citizen Beth Minette before the Supreme Court in the US capital is set to explode on Tuesday, The New York Post said.

According to the file seen by the newspaper, Dr. Beth Minnet confirmed that her husband Tim has apparently established a relationship since last April with Omar, who recently separated from her husband, and told her that he is fond of Somali-born MP.

Dr. Beth, 55, and her husband, Tim, have a 13-year-old son.

The court papers showed that the couple actually separated, not officially, in April after Tim told his wife about the issue of treason and his relationship with God.

The declassified husband also told his wife that he was in love with a Minnesota congressman, apparently while working with her, since her campaign.

The 37-year-old congresswoman and mother of three has paid Tim Myint and the E Street group about $ 230,000 through her campaign since 2018 for consultations on digital communications, online advertising, travel expenses and more.
Omar was seen enjoying her time with Tim at a California restaurant in March.

Besides divorce, Beth is seeking custody of her son because of her husband's continued travel with Omar, although his job with the congressman does not provide for it.

Omar Hersi, Omar's husband, who was previously married to Ahmed Nour Said Elmi, is a former banker who was appointed as a senior aide to the Minnesota City Council last year, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported at the time.
