Right now, work is underway to construct a new pedestrian and bicycle path in Norberg, which will go from Frida Hansdotter's arena, over Norbergsån, to Källskolan and Centralskolan on the other side. So far, the street is nameless, but Torbjörn Norgren, to everyday leisure politicians in the Party of Norberg's Future, has put a citizen's proposal on a suitable name.

Torbjörn Norgren

- When I saw that Västerås has a number of streets with women's names, I thought we must have that here in Norberg as well. Then came the idea of a Lilian, who has made a great contribution to tourism here in Norberg, he says.

The Lilian he has in mind is the ceramicist Lilian Fernqvist who founded the well-known arts and crafts tasted Abrahamsgården.

Street names after famous men

Norberg has previously named Linnévägen, Polhemsvägen and Bobergsvägen, named after the botanist Carl von Linné (who visited the Moss mine in 1734), the inventor Christopher Polhem (whom the Polhemshjulet in the Kärrgruvan mine is named), and the prominent architect Ferdinand Boberg (who grew up in Norberg).

To be decided this fall

The only street in Norberg with a woman's name is Mariagatan, but it is not a memorial name. In the autumn, it will be decided whether Norberg gets its first street named after a woman - then the Västmanland-Dalarna Environment and Building Board will make a preliminary decision on the matter. If they say yes, it is then forwarded to the Norberg municipal council who is allowed to make the final decision.
