Most people who leave Gothenburg move to the city's crane municipalities. The fact is that both Swedish-born and foreign-born often want to make such a move after a time inside the city. The difference lies in the possibilities.

While the unemployment rate of foreign-born was 3.8 percent in 2018, the corresponding figure for foreign-born was 15.4. This means that those who have immigrated to Sweden have less opportunities to, for example, take out loans to buy or build a villa.

Instead, a lot of them remain in Gothenburg city, while Swedish-born move out and bring their tax money to, for example, Lerum, Partille or Kungsbacka. Here also a consequence of the pattern emerges. Since the group of foreign-born people, among other things, consists of many new arrivals - who during their first years in Sweden often have little opportunity to create a job and pay money in tax, in the long run, welfare becomes suffering.

Josefson (M): Diminishes the tax power

In the long term, there is concern about Gothenburg City Council Chairman Axel Josefson (M).

- Basically, it is positive that more people want to settle in Gothenburg. At the same time, we have a concern that some choose to leave, not least families with children. Of course, this affects the tax power in Gothenburg by extension, he says.

The Alliance's plan in Gothenburg is now to try to break the pattern of emigrating Swedish-born, a plan with above all three points.

- Partly it is about building more small houses. Because we know that families with children are looking for this, and that is often why they move to the wreath municipalities. Then you do what you can to be sure of getting a place in childcare. And the third is about securing security here in Gothenburg, where you are experiencing insecurity today and that is something we want to break, says Axel Josefson.
