Sylvie Goulard, former minister of the armed forces, has been proposed by Emmanuel Macron to represent France in the next European Commission.

Emmanuel Macron proposed on Wednesday the former minister Sylvie Goulard to represent France in the next European Commission, said the Elysee.

Sylvie Goulard, 54 years old and member of the Modem, has "a recognized European experience" and "has the capacity to play a major role in the Commission" chaired by the German Ursula Von der Leyen from 1 November, stressed the Presidency.

The former Minister of Armed Forces and former MEP was a member of the Edouard Philippe government in June 2017, before leaving his post because of the opening of a preliminary investigation targeting his party in the case of European parliamentary assistants.
