Bahrain's ambassador to the United States was robbed of violence during a private visit to friends in Vallores on the French coast, the prosecution said in the southeastern city of Grasse, confirming news in local media.

A source in the prosecution said the incident took place in an upscale neighborhood on the city's highlands at around 11 pm local time (9 GMT).

He said the diplomat, Sheikh Abdullah bin Rashid bin Abdullah al-Khalifa, was returning to his friends' house with his wife and two daughters when attackers sprayed tear gas on his car before hitting his skull with a gas bomb.

The attackers seized the ambassador's $ 130,000 watch and his wife's handbag containing cash and identity documents.

The family members of the family were not hospitalized, although the ambassador suffered a head injury as a result of the beatings, while the tear gas disturbed his wife and two daughters.

Grass's prosecution commissioned the investigation to the judicial police in Nice.

It is not known if the assailants are chasing their victims in a car or waiting for them in front of the family's friends' house.
