Brazilian writer Paulo Coelho has asked the French people to allow after the negative comments made by his country President Jaire Bolsonaro against France, in the context of the crisis accompanying the Amazon fires.

"This is a somewhat sad video asking for my French friends to be allowed because of the crisis or what I would call Bolsonaro's hysteria towards France, its president and his wife," Coelho said in a video posted on his Twitter account on Tuesday.

"This is a dark moment in Brazil. It will pass as the night elapses ... I apologize to you."

"While the Amazon is burning, they have no argument and only insults, denials and utterances to escape from their responsibilities," Paulo Coelho said of Brazilian leaders.

The Brazilian novelist, known for selling tens of millions of copies of his novel Alchemist since 1988, became the best-selling Brazilian writer in history, having published it in 1988.

Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1947, Coelho is one of the most famous writers in the world with a total sales of more than 150 million books, including the "harlot", "eleven minutes" and "pilgrim."

The G7 summit in the French city of Biarritz created tension between Bolsonaro and his French counterpart over the Amazon fires, leading to one of the most serious diplomatic crises between the two countries.

French-Brazilian controversy
Abusive remarks by Brazilian President Brigitte Macron led French President Jacques Bolsonaro to describe France's first lady with "little respect" in the latest wave of rhetoric over the Amazon fires.

On the sidelines of the Group of Seven summit in Biarritz, Macron said Bolsonaro "made statements that did not respect my wife."

"What can I say? It is sad first for him and for the Brazilian people," he said. "He hopes that Brazilians will soon have a president who is acting at a decent level." "I think Brazilians who are great people are ashamed of such actions," he said.

Brazilian President Bolsonaro reacted, via his official Facebook page, to a post that mocked the form of Brigitte Macron, 67, who appears in a photo she compares to Brazilian First Lady Michelle Bolsonaro, 37, with a comment. ".

Bolsonaro's account commented, "Don't embarrass the man," with a hint of laughter.

Macron called for urgent discussions at the G7 summit on fires that are devastating parts of the Amazon jungle, in an escalation of pressure on Bolsonaro.

However, the Brazilian president accused Macron of being a "colonial mentality", in response to the French president's accusation that he "lied" about Brazil's commitments on climate change.
