A 40-year-old man is hospitalized and in critical condition after trying to save two children from Segur de Calafell beach (Tarragona) on Tuesday afternoon, Civil Protection has reported to Europa Press.

The events happened at 7:40 p.m. when several people who were near the beach called emergency telephone number 112 to warn that two young people were drowning in the water and that a man had come to rescue them. Finally, the girls were able to go out on their own feet, while the man had to be rescued by surfers who were in the area.

The emergency service discharged the two girls 'in situ', and, for the moment, the man is still in critical condition at the Hospital Joan XXIII of Tarragona. At the time of the accident there was no surveillance service, but after noon the yellow flag was changed to the red one.
