Saudi-based rights activist Iyad al-Baghdadi said that Saud al-Qahtani, an adviser to the Saudi crown prince, may have been liquidated cyanide about six days ago by Mohammed bin Salman.

Al-Jazeera Net could not confirm the authenticity of al-Baghdadi's tweets from other sources.

"I received news yesterday morning that Saud al-Qahtani was poisoned to death by Mohammed bin Salman," Baghdadi wrote in a series of tweets on his Twitter page, noting that the source he relied on was good, but could not disclose it. Two sources linked to US intelligence confirmed the death of al-Qahtani.

In another tweet, he said he learned that at least two other people - described as "brilliant professionals" - had received the same information. "I can't confirm whether they came from the same sources," he said.

According to al-Baghdadi, Mohammed bin Salman was under great pressure to abandon al-Qahtani, most notably those from Jared Kushner, son-in-law of US President Donald Trump, and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, as well as an investigation by a UN rapporteur into the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi at his country's consulate in Istanbul. Last October.

"I was told that Mohammed bin Salman has recently taken a tough step in the killing of al-Qahtani, who was considered one of those involved in the killing of Khashoggi. He added that "Al-Qahtani died six days ago from cyanide poison, and it may be announced that he took an overdose of drugs."

It's been over 24 hours since I tweeted this, about Saud Al Qahtani's fate. Many fine journalists have been on it since. There's been no official confirmation, but perhaps more importantly for me, no refutation either. At this point I'm choosing to post a thread with what I know: https://t.co/EJ0xNHpDjO

Baghdadi quoted a Gulf journalist who spoke to a Saudi diplomat about the matter.

According to al-Baghdadi, who did not mention him, the United States knows the details of what happened and is unhappy that it will not end the problem, but promised the Saudi crown prince not to disclose the matter until he reveals it himself.

Al-Qahtani may try to falsify his death so that he can escape accountability, but one thing that can be decisively confirmed is a funeral, Al-Qahtani said. Has someone logged in in the past days?

In May, the Palestinian activist himself received information from the Norwegian intelligence about threats to liquidate him from Saudi security services, and told him that the intelligence agency "ally" is the source of this information, and therefore must move with them to a safe place.

Al-Baghdadi said in remarks to Al-Jazeera at the time that information linking him - through a certain point in Saudi Arabia - that Saud Al-Qahtani is preparing a list of activists and dissidents who may be targeted.
