According to Steven Testelin, forecaster at Météo France, interviewed Wednesday on Europe 1, the summer 2019 will be, like the two previous ones, among the hottest recorded since the beginning of the surveys in 1900.

ON DECRYPT

As in 2018, as in 2017, it was very hot in France during the summer of 2019. This impression that it is getting hotter in France during the months of July and August is verified by the facts. If there are still four days of measurements before establishing the final balance sheet for the summer of 2019, marked by heatwaves and drought, the trend is already very clear. "The summer of 2019 will certainly be in the Top 4 of the hottest summers", confirms on Europe 1 Wednesday morning Steven Testelin, forecaster at Météo France.

"We can see the climate change mark"

In France, temperature readings began in 1900, which resulted in averages of temperature for the summer period. For 2019, it will be "between 1.6 and 1.8 degrees more than the average of a usual summer," says Steven Testelin. "The summer of 2019 will obviously not be able to beat the unusually hot summer of 2003. With the data we currently have, we have reason to believe that it will be between summer 2018, last year , and the summer 2017, which would take the fourth place ", continues the forecaster.

One thing is certain: climate change is indeed concrete. Because among the hottest summers ever recorded, "we find three consecutive summers, the last three we've lived," recalls Steven Testelin. "We can see the climate change mark, hot summers will become more frequent, summers will get hotter, and we already have an illustration right now," warns the meteorologist.
