Simona Halep of Romania, 4th in the world, qualified for the second round of the US Open on Tuesday by giving Nicole Gibbs (135th) a set that she finally beat 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.
In the next round, the former world No.1 will face another American, Taylor Townsend (116th).
"She played a lot better in the 2nd set and I had less energy," she said to explain the loss of the second run.
As for her goal at Flushing Meadows where she gets the title at Wimbledon, she replied with a smile: "I have the right to dream big, right?"
