The Tunisian Football Federation announced on Tuesday the appointment of Monther Kabir as the new coach of the first national football team to succeed Frenchman Alain Giresse.

The federation said in a statement that the contract with Kabir for three years, and will be announced members of the technical staff assisting him in a press conference on Thursday.

The 49-year-old Tunisian coach has already coached CA Bizertin, Esperance, ES Sahel, Africa, La Marsa and some second division clubs.

Al-Kabir's appointment comes after Frenchman Alain Giresse was sacked from the post, following the 2019 African Nations Cup hosted by Egypt and crowned by the Algerian national team.

Giris, who took office last December, led Tunisia to the semi-finals against Senegal at the African Nations Cup, but lost 1-0 before beating Nigeria in the third and fourth place.

Giris was widely criticized during the first games of the tournament, where the Carthage Eagles qualified for the second round without any win in the first round.
