A short-term unemployment: dismissed by Olympique de Marseille two weeks ago, the French international defender Adil Rami has engaged with Fenerbahçe for at least one season, announced Tuesday the Turkish club.

"We have signed a one-year contract with an additional year in option with the experienced defender," Fenerbahce said in a statement, without giving further details.

With his new colors and a wide smile on the photos published by Fenerbahçe, the 33-year-old defenseman seems ready to turn the page of OM who dismissed him there are a fortnight for "serious fault", according to the sports daily L'Equipe.

Recruited in 2017 from Sevilla FC by Rudi Garcia, the French international (36 caps, 1 goal) had a promising start with Marseille: pillar of the team that reached the final of the Europa League in 2018.

But, in the wake of his world title in Russia with the Blues, his season 2018-2019 was marked by injury, poor performance and controversy.

In particular, OM had initiated a disciplinary procedure against the Frenchman at the beginning of July: his employers had not given up on seeing him miss a training session and taking part in a filming of Fort Boyard last season, while he was supposed to be hurt. Her media separation from actress Pamela Anderson and the subsequent dismissal of a marital victim advocacy organization did not help her image.
