There was widespread ridicule and multiple questions spread on social networking sites in Egypt following the decision of the Ministry of Health to remove a series of famous pharmacies from the records of pharmacists, in conjunction with a huge advertising campaign for another chain of pharmacies that some activists say are belonging to the army and named after the birth of Sisi.

The Central Department of Free Treatment and Licensing at the Ministry of Health notified the Pharmacists Syndicate in Cairo to remove Hatem Rushdie and Ahmed El Ezaby from the records of the pharmacists, which means the closure of their chain of pharmacies under the name of "Rushdie Pharmacies" and "El Ezaby Pharmacies".

The decision was also based on a court ruling saying that the law stipulates that "anyone who practiced the pharmacy without a license or obtained a license to open a pharmacy by circumventing the borrowing of another pharmacist" shall be punished by imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years and a fine not exceeding 200 pounds or both.

The court clarified that it is evident from the case papers that 14 pharmacists sold their trade names to El Ezaby, in order to be able to open and manage more than one pharmacy in violation of the law, which gives the pharmacist the right to own a maximum of two pharmacies.

But Ahmed al-Ezabi said in a televised statement that the decision was issued by one side is not responsible for the pharmacies and pharmacists sector, which is virtually non-existent, and tried to blame the Muslim Brotherhood by stressing that the crisis began since the group's control of the Pharmacists Syndicate, as he put it.

For her part, said Undersecretary of the Health Committee in the House of Representatives Inas Abdel Halim that the decision does not mean the closure of pharmacies, and all that will happen is to change the name in pharmacies, according to press statements.

Aside from the legal controversy behind the decision to write off and the consequent closure or not, the pioneers of social networking sites ridiculed the decision, where some considered an attempt to open the pharmacy market to a new chain of pharmacies belonging to the army named "19011".

It is not clear what the name indicates, but activists point out that it reflects President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi's birthday on November 19, 1954.

The singers accused the army leaders of seeking to control the Egyptian market and monopolize all goods and services, warning of the impact on the reputation of the army to the Egyptians, as well as its efficiency.

Since the military coup that toppled President-elect Mohamed Morsi in July 2013 by then-Defense Minister Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, the army has moved to control many areas of life, including road construction and monopolizing industrial, agricultural and fisheries activities, despite many warnings of damage to the size of the country. Economic activity and investment in Egypt.
