The trial against film producer Harvey Weinstein , whose alleged sexual abuse catalyzed the #MeToo movement, was postponed this Monday until next January 6 after the judge accepted new charges against him.

The process, which was scheduled to begin on September 9 , has been postponed to give more time to the lawyers of the Hollywood tycoon to prepare his defense. His team will have 45 days to respond to the new accusations this Monday, made by actress Annabella Sciorra , known for her role in the American series The Sopranos .

Weinstein's lawyer Donna Rotunno has assured the media, after the session in a New York court , that the defense team now has a month and a half to respond to the new complaint and then the Prosecutor's Office must counter-argue the letter that present the lawyers, before the judge makes a final decision.

Sciorra alleges that Weinstein raped her in 1993 at her home in Manhattan . Before the judge, the producer, who has entered the courts with his wives on and has left without them, has declared himself " not guilty " of the new charges.

So far, whoever was the almighty producer Hollywood is charged with rape in a Manhattan hotel in 2013 and forced oral sex in 2006 , to two women who remain anonymous.

Weinstein, 67 , says that the sexual relations he had were consented, but he was accused by more than 80 women - including several celebrities - of sexual abuse, from cases of harassment to rape.

This Monday's session takes place a week after his defense requested that the trial not be held in New York City , and that he be transferred to "any other county" of the State. With this, they want to ensure that the process is "fair", because they believe that media pressure could affect the assessment of the members of the court. The Prosecutor's Office opposes this measure.
