26 August 2019 OSCE GDP slowed in the second quarter of the year with a 0.5% growth compared to 0.6% recorded in the first three months of 2019.

The slowdown affects all the major countries in the organization, with Italy recording zero growth both in comparison with the first quarter and the same period in 2018.

In the annual comparison, the Italian economy was the worst among the G7 countries that recorded an average growth of 1.6%, equal to that of the OECD area.

Among the G7 countries, according to the OECD in the latest quarterly statistics, GDP growth suffered a marked slowdown in the United Kingdom between the first and second quarter of 2019 (-0.2% from + 0.5% in the previous quarter) and in Germany (-0.1% from + 0.4%).

GDP growth slowed, but more moderately, in the United States and Japan (respectively at + 0.5% and + 0.4%, from + 0.8% and from + 0.7% in the previous quarter) and, marginally, in France (from + 0.3% to + 0.2%) and in Italy (from + 0.2% to zero).

The slowdown is also visible in the data relating to the European Union (from + 0.5% to + 0.2%) and to Euroland (from + 0.4% to + 0.2%).

On an annual basis, the OECD area recorded a 1.6% increase in GDP. Among the seven major economies, the United States achieved the highest annual growth (+ 2.3%), while Italy, underlines the organization, recorded the lowest annual growth (0.0%).

Germany grew by 0.4% and France by 1.3%. UK GDP increased by 1.2%. The European Union average was + 1.3% and Euroland was + 1.1%.
