An aircraft belonging to the military's military base in nearby San Javier has crashed into the sea off La Manga in southeastern Spain, according to local newspaper La Opinión de Murcia.

At half past ten today, the emergency center received hundreds of calls from witnesses who had seen the accident from the beach. There is no information yet on the injured, but according to the radio channel Cadena SER, the pilot could shoot himself out of the plane before the crash.

Several local media reports that the plane belongs to "Patrulla Águila", the Air Force's group for art flying, and that the plane crashed during an exercise with several complicated maneuvers and loops.

A video that La Opinión de Murcia published on its website shows how the plane falls quickly with its nose down before it crashes into the sea.

A large rescue effort with boats and helicopters is under way to find the pilot.
