Several municipalities want to impose a begging ban

Vellinge municipality in Skåne was the first in the country to introduce a local ban on begging. Since then, Eskilstuna, Katrineholm and Sölvesborg have followed and restricted or prohibited begging in certain places.

- The purpose has been primarily to force contact with society and, by extension, to remove people who are in this situation from our streets, Jimmy Jansson (S) previously told SVT Sörmland.

Ekot's survey shows that begging bans may be relevant in several municipalities. The municipal council's chairman in ten municipalities replied that some kind of limitation on begging could be introduced.

A further 16 municipalities responded that restrictions may become relevant in the future. Some municipalities are waiting and want to see how it works in the municipalities that have already introduced the restrictions.
