Norway intends to inspect the Northern Sea Route

Erickson noted that Oslo has no idea how Russia intends to ensure the safety of shipping in Arctic waters along the entire route.

She also added that Norway did not consider providing Svalbard ports for the Northern Sea Route.

“We have yet to explore this possibility, given Norway’s sovereignty over the island,” the minister said in an interview with Izvestia.

Previously, the French company CMA CGM, which is one of the largest in the world in the container shipping industry, refused to use Arctic routes, including the Northern Sea Route.
