It was in connection with a planned maintenance work that a short circuit occurred in a so-called low voltage switchgear at Nyköping's laser.

Due to an internal fault, the hospital's backup power system never started, and the laser was paralyzed for several hours. This has caused the opposition council Magnus Leivik (M) to react.

- I am not an expert but I believe that there are various process industries that have solved this issue. Then the question is how prioritized it is for politics, says Magnus Leivik (M).

The cause is being investigated

According to Leivik, this is not the first time something similar has occurred. As late as 2011, according to him, there must have been disruptions in the electricity supply in both Nyköping and Eskilstuna. Leivik also does not think that the issue is given high priority by the political majority.

- I think the taxpayers are willing to pay to ensure that a small mistake should not knock out an entire hospital, he continues.

How the error could occur is now being investigated within Region Sörmland.

- It is a very important job and before it is clear, we have a hard time expressing what needs to be done, says regional council Jonas Lindeberg (VFP).

But shouldn't this happen?

- No, it is clear that hospitals should not become powerless.
