Another weekend of demonstrations on the streets of Hong Kong is over. Sunday became one of the most violent so far, reports Reuters. Protesters threw stones and moltov cocktails at the police, who responded with water cannons and tear gas.

Six policemen must have fired weapons, and a policeman should have also fired a warning shot into the air, Hong Kong police said in a statement.

Following eleven weekends of repeated clashes between police and protesters, a further escalation of violence and unrest was noted on Sunday, according to the British Public Service Channel.

"Driving Hong Kong to the Border"

"The escalating illegal and violent acts of radical protesters are not only outrageous, they are also pushing Hong Kong towards the border into a very dangerous situation," the government writes in a statement.

Activists have repeatedly criticized the police, who they believe use too much force. Several people, both protesters and police, were taken to hospital on Sunday.

On Monday, Hong Kong police issued a statement summarizing the weekend's efforts. A total of 29 men and 7 women were arrested, the youngest demonstrator who was deprived of liberty this weekend is only 12 years old, Reuters reports.
