The two men were arrested shortly after half past nine on Sunday evening near Tampere, reports Swedish Yle.

The arrest took place after a dramatic car chase that should have lasted for about 30 minutes. The two suspects must have opened fire on the police during the car chase. However, there is no information that anyone was injured during the arrest.

- At the moment, the persons are being investigated and if they have a connection to the night's shooting, police chief Seppo Kolehmainen tells Yle.

Shotgun police officers

It was around midnight between Saturday and Sunday that a police patrol called out an alarm that was called to the emergency center. The police should have been shot almost immediately when they arrived at the scene, writes Hufvudstadsbladet, who believes that the incident may have been a trap aimed at the police.

"Whoever called in the alarm is a very interesting person for the police," Crime Commissioner Kimmo Huhta-aho told the newspaper.

A massive police operation was launched and both helicopters, police boats and armored police vehicles were in place during the night, Finnish media reported.

None of the shelled police sustained life-threatening injuries, but the incident is being investigated as an attempted murder.

"They are in good hands and doing well," Commissioner Olavi Merihaara told police in Eastern Uusima to the newspaper Uusima earlier on Sunday.

The police have a good word

The police do not yet want to comment on the suspect's background or nationality. It is also not stated whether the incident is believed to be linked to organized crime.

- The Central Criminal Police gives more information about the case later, Kolehmainen tells Yle.

According to testimony to Ilta-Sanomat, the two arrested persons were traveling in a green-gray Volvo V50 with Swedish registration plates.
