PewDiePie's name may not tell you anything. This Swedish blogger has just broken a record. He passed the 100 million subscriber mark on YouTube on Sunday. 100 million people around the world watch his videos. This is the first time that a channel created by a single individual, and not belonging to a company, exceeds this threshold. A 100% internet phenomenon.

When you watch a video of PewDiePie, two reactions are possible: either you do not understand anything and you will never do it again. Either you will become addicted, and you will join a community that today counts more than 100 million people and who rejoices to see cult videos like Bitch Lasagna or Congratulations .

On the screen, most of the time, we see this twenty-nine-year-old Swede bustling in front of a video game, laughing, screaming, chaining comments on his progress. A niche that has become a carrier among gamers.

But to gather 100 million fans, we must add a few ingredients: a little competition by inventing a false rivalry with another YouTube channel, a few scandals with comments that border on racism or anti-Semitism and a good dose of melodrama, with videos of apologies, to apologize for previous videos.

Born in Gothenburg, PewDiePie is almost a virtual character. We almost forget that he lives in London today, that he has just married his Italian fiancee - he has met of course on the internet - and that he has won in 2018 nearly $ 16 million .
