The police are more visible on Sunday in the Peelo residential area in Assen, where a man was killed in a playground on Saturday.
The man was attacked by five people because they suspected him of performing immoral acts with a 4-year-old girl.
The police say they want to offer help to local residents. "We can imagine that there are still questions among the residents of the neighborhood," said a police spokesperson.
The mayor of Assen, Marco Out, was present on Saturday at the location where the incident took place. Out says the incident has "a major impact" on the neighborhood. "It is now extremely important that the police get a clear picture of what exactly happened," he says. "A lot of people are working on that now."
From conversations with attendees it has become clear that many local residents are very shocked, says Out. "Because of the nice weather, many people were sitting outside. I don't know how many people actually saw the incident, but there was a lot of shouting, so many heard it."
