“We, France and Germany, emphasized that we want very soon now, after the preparatory meeting of the advisers and, accordingly, the foreign ministers, we want the summit with the Russian and Ukrainian presidents,” she said during a press conference on the sidelines of the G7 summit in France.

According to her, the parties “said for a long time” that due to the fact that the last meeting was held in Berlin, “this one will be held in Paris”, RIA Novosti reports.

Merkel also said that Berlin and Paris will make every effort to hold a meeting in the near future.

Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron, at a meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, said that he considered it necessary to hold a meeting in the Norman format.

He noted that he would like to "give the momentum" to the dynamics of the conflict settlement process in the Donbass.

At the same time, the Russian president emphasized that there is no alternative to the Norman format.
