Madrid (AP) - Real Madrid have suffered a setback on Matchday 2 of the new season in Spanish La Liga. The team of German international Toni Kroos came home against outsider Real Valladolid not a disappointing 1-1 (0-0) out.

After their 3-1 opening win against Celta Vigo and the blunder of FC Barcelona in the first game, Madrid could not extend its lead over the archrival. The team of coach Zinédine Zidane had already imagined on the winning road after the lead by Karim Benzema in the 82nd minute. But Sergi Guardiola defended Valladolid in front of 63,037 spectators at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu with his 88th-minute goal.

Kroos was also in the starting eleven as the willing to emigrate Gareth Bale and returned from Bayern James Rodriguez. Madrid dominated the match over the entire season, but did not mind its many chances. The substitute in the 68th minute ex-Frankfurt Luka Jovic hit the bar just a minute later with a header. A ball loss from Kroos then ushered in the draw by Guardiola.

"You can lose the ball, that can happen, but we were not able to defend properly," Zidane said after the game. "The first half was good but we could not win and the result leaves a bad taste."
