Melanie Clément (-48kg), the last Frenchwoman in the first day, was beaten in her fight for a bronze medal and finished at the foot of the podium at the World Judo Championships Sunday in Tokyo.

Clément (27), beaten for the first time in the quarter-finals (by Tonaki), then victorious in his repechage fight (against Pareto), lost his second time, against the Mongolian Urantsetseg Munkhbat, by ippon.

The judoka, who has devoted herself fully to judo for only two years, has often turned around but has never yet mounted on an international podium (7th at the World Championships-2017 and at Euro-2019, fifth at the European 2018).

On the men's side, the two Habs in -60 kg, Walide Khyar (24) and Luka Mkheidze (23), were both stopped before the quarterfinals, which open the way to the medals.
